'Though it merely lasts for 6 months, under the instructions of doctors sent from Hunan to support us, we¡¯ve started 16 gap-filling technologies and operations in Tibet£¬which are in the lead ¡¡in Shannan region of Tibet and even the whole Tibet.', said the local doctors. On the afternoon of Nov. 6, the 7th group of Hunan medical staff of 9 returned to Changsha with glory after nearly- half-a-year aid there.
It is learnt that the 9 medical staff with Yin Xinmin, associate chief physician in the department of hepatobiliary surgery, People¡¯s Hospital of Hunan Province, as the team leader, left for the Tibetan Plateau thousands of miles away on May 23. On the very next day, they arrived in the Shannan region of Tibet under the guidance of Hu Ruicheng, director of Shannan Public Health Bureau and Yin Xinmin.
Based on the principle of pairing-assistance, the staff is subdivided into three groups for convenience: 3 Hunan doctors coming from Changde stayed in the People's Hospital of Rongzi County, 2 from Yueyang worked in the People's Hospital of Sangri County, while the other 4 including team leader Yin Xinmin stayed in the Hospital of Traditional Tibetan Medicine in Shannan region. Yin was appointed as assistant to the hospital director and head of the surgical department there.
At the very beginning of their arrival, due to the low oxygen saturation of 83% there, some of them suffered from severe altitude sickness, yet they never gave in, instead, they cheered themselves up, held to the post in the daytime, and chose to accept treatment at night. Their professional dedication deeply moved the
Tibetan colleagues who then constantly came to visit and greet them.
Yin Xinmin said that when assigned to the Shannan Traditional Tibetan Hospital, they restructured and improved the surgical ward and operating room (OR) immediately. In those 6 months, they have successfully completed 126 cases of large and medium scale operation including laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), laparoscopic transcystic CBD exploration, laparoscopic appendectomy, radical operation for carcinoma of stomach, etc., and perfectly fulfilled the goal of ¡®no error, no medical accident, no post-operative complication, and no dispute¡¯. It is a historic breakthrough, which, in less than 6 months, outnumbered the operation total in the previous four years, ushering in a new epoch in the surgery of traditional Tibetan medicine hospital.
Besides, under the instruction of Hunan doctors, 16 new technologies and operations were applied and undertaken. Furthermore, with the generous support from Hunan Public Health Bureau, for the first time, fully automatic clinical chemistry analyzer with a test capacity of 200 persons per hour was successfully introduced and installed there, which greatly improved the test efficiency and expanded the scope of test items.
